I'm installing a new console panel on my '97 Accord DX, in the process of replacing a stolen stereo.
However, the cigarette lighter harness is attached to the old console panel with some sort of faceplate, which I will need to remove and use to attach the cigarette lighter to the new panel.
But I can't get the faceplate off, and I don't want to break the thing.
Has anyone encountered this problem?
Thanks.

the back sleeve portion is threaded on to the front part where the cig lighter would plug into. With the unit unplugged I have been able to shove a thumb into the socket and twist with the other hand. I think that was all that there was to it, however it has been a year or so since I have had to swap any dash panels.

I've unplugged the harness and unscrewed the metal cover from the back of the cigarette lighter. It appears that the lighter itself must come apart before I can remove it.
At this point, everything's hanging loose from the front and back of the old console panel.
There's a white plastic piece stuck into the back of the lighter. It twists around but doesn't appear to detach. But I don't see any other way to disconnect the lighter.
Is this the piece you twisted out, or will I break it if I attempt to do that?
