Hi, new to the forum.

Quick question on a dual mono drive I have two amps and love them KAC-8152D not many people like them but hey.

I read online about setting them up to a dual mono drive. I will currently be running 1 12" Sub TS-W1207D4 which I am in the process of aquiring. I would be running the amps in a Dual Mono Drive setup and the sub wired in parralel (2 ohm load). Will the Dual Mono drive be sufficient enough? Does Dual Mono Drive mean that I am making 2 amps into 1?

If anyone is curious on a Dual Mono Drive setup thats what it looks like.

Thanks

Dan

Yep, exactly what it means.  It is also called "bridging" and requires using amplifiers designed for this and usually some sort of slave cable between the two amps.

Perfect, Just needed some clarification on it. Do you think it will be enough power for that sub?

For best results make sure that your amps are adjusted identically. follow the diagram and you should be fine. I think you should have enough pwer.

I thought this was called "strapping".

Kenwood seems to call it Dual Mono Drive.... Kinda makes sence, maybe its there way of calling it like AMDs Hyper Transport and Intels Hyper threading?

So you said you are using the model 8152?  Literature says it is not dual mono drive like the 9152.

Build the box so that it performs well in the worst case scenario and, in return, it will reward you at all times.

Would it not work the same? Or is there something special that I would need?

It can't be done with that particular amplifier. It has to be BUILT that way, with the strapping capabilities built into the amp from the beginning. The 8152 doesn't have the capabilities, and you run the risk of smoking one or both of your amps if you try it...

So how abouts would I go wiring TS-W3001D4 or 2 which ever would work. I was talking to my friend last night and he says it wasnt possible but i think anything is possible.

They are mono amplifiers, so you could use either the 2 ohm OR the 4 ohm version. Wire one amp to each voice coil. Done and done. NEXT!!!

Not everything is possible. For instance, I have already told you that strapping your existing amplifiers ISN'T possible, without damaging them! posted_image

Sorry for being a pain in the ***. Still trying to figure this all out... If I was running 2ohms would I be getting a lot more out of my amps then if I was running 4ohms?  Just trying to get a grasp on all of this.

Reason being my first sound system was just slapped together and it sounded good and all but I know for a fact that it has more potential. But also want to downsize at the same time. I want to do this system right and keep it for a long while.

Yes, you'll get more power at 2 ohms; all I was saying was that you could use EITHER the 4 ohm, DVC woofer OR the 2 ohm DVC woofer. That is the ONLY way you will be able to get all the power (either all the 4 ohm power OR all the 2 ohm power - it doesn't matter) from both of the amps into one woofer - by using a DVC woofer, and connecting one amplifier to each voice coils as though they were separate woofers, even though they aren't.

The TSW1207D4 is 400 watts RMS, right? and that amp puts out over 500 watts rms @ 2 ohms, right?? Why use two amps then? not trying to sound rude, just curious....

I went to the local shop and they gave me a price for the TS-W3001D4  that I can not refuse. So I am going with that model its 1000rms at 2ohms.  not rude just curious i agree.
