I just purchased a set of Kicker SSMB8.  They are free air subs.  I already had a box built for one of these subs ( I only need one), and at high volume, the sub distorts.  Could the sealed box be a problem for the free air sub.

It is hooked up to a Hifonics amp with only 100 watts (rms) going to it.

thanks,

todd

no,  it is more like a reverb/vibration.

Are they mid bass speakers? Not subs?

The gain is set about 50%.  And they are midbass subs.

they are midbass drivers, you might be feeding them to low of a frequency like a sub
