inductor

Alright, so I just got my 2 https://www.partsexpress.com/pe/pshowdetl.cfm?&PartNumber=255-026&DID=7 for my 4x6 woofers in the fr doors in the mail today and I was wondering if I did it right. I took some 400grit and sanded the solder off each lead of each coil. I did this until I got to rough-looking copper, then I crimped some connectors on the ends and sealed the deal w/ solder.

1.Sanding down to the rough(bare) copper is the best way of ensuring a good contact, right?

2. I will be installing these right next to the woofers (best place;)), I need to have them 90* from the coil in the woofer, correct? Like this:

Quite honestly, that's a magnet on the butt end of that woofer.  I install coils as far from magnets as possible.  This pic shows 3 coils each at 90 degrees from the other two:

Your pic is correct, but a bit too close for comfort.

Okay, so i'll keep it as far away as possible,which is only about 6" away. I'll keep it about 90* from the voice coils position.

Was I right about sanding the inductor leads for best contact? I'm measuring resistance through them and their connectors right now... I'm getting .4ohms through each coil with connectors. Their specs call for .33 each,

Would connectors add .7ohms? -I used a Sunpro CP7678 and it read 0ohms by touching the probes together.

Jantzen coils are top notch.  They will be true to specs, don't worry about it.  I don't sand the ends of the coil wires to solder, I just solder them as they are.  They solder fine with anything from 30 watt pencil to 100 watt Weller, from my experience.

The big benefit of ordering custom parts is that the parts are ready to assemble without measuring them and making changes.  You are not winding your own coil here.

I'll keep that in mind. Yeah, I expected to them to have some kind of pre-usage instructions, so i'll keep that in mind. -I just remember making a cheezy electric motor kit when I's a youngin' that if you didn't sand the leads down well, the motor wouldn't work right, if all.

I planned on using Jantzen inductors in the future, so i'll take your word as referance. You guys rock. Thanks, Javin

I personally prefer the Solen inductors.  We had some that had the leads pre-tinned which saved some time.  Also on the larger inductors Solen winds them with more layers rather than Jantzen's taller but fewer layer design.  I was told that the Solen way was better.  But then I've heard great results with Jantzen inductors too.

As for the positioning, keep in mind that inductors store their energy in the magnetic field.  And any near magnetic field, especially a moving one like from a speaker, can crosstalk with that field and effect the sound.
