Well I have just installed a new Kenwood reciever in my vehicle. It sounds great...much better than the generic reciever I had in before. Only one problem...its wattage and RMS is rated the same as my previous reciever but now when I try to increase the volume to higher levels (not even close to peak) the reciever will cut on and off. The previous reciever I could blast to its maximum and never had this problem. I am using a 1000 watt amp and after installing a power cap. the problem is not quite as bad but still frustrating and a little embarassing. The problem is even worse when the vehicle is not running, then I can only increase power about 1/2 way before the reciever cuts on and off. I have a new 800amp battery and a new 180amp high output alternator as well hoping any of this might have fixed the problem but it has not...only minimally. Any ideas?

You say the receiver is cutting out? How, it stays on but the sound cuts out? Is it possible that the amp remote out is overloaded? Disconnect remote wire coming from head unit and put a jumper between 12v + and remote input at amp and see if it still cuts out.
It could be insufficient power/ground at head unit.

actually the reciever goes completly dead (shuts off) then comes back on after a couple of seconds...

after scratching my head over and over about this problem I finally went back again to square one checking all the wiring on the head unit. Lo and behold...a bad ground connection. Guess it shows again always make sure there is good power and ground before anything else. By the way the neighbors down the block say it works fine now....

i actually have a similar problem with my kvt-717 for some reason every once in a while while in cd mode itll swicth to am/fm real fast but muted and then like 5 seconds later itll resume in cd mode, the hu stays on and so do the amps...the hu and i beleive the eq i have are both grounded to the harness and my remote wire is being used by the hu and 2 amps....
