I have a 2007 Chevy Coblat coupe, it has the base stero (actually it has no options whats so ever) and I cant figure out what I need to do to install a head unit.  Im looking for a definitive answer that I only need  a normal basic harness, and a normal basic mount kit, and that doing that wont loose any functions.  For anybody wondering the D.I.C. on my car is in the speedo.  I apreciate any and all help.

Thanks,

Sean

Ok so I decided to get to the bottom of this so to speak. I figured that not having the headunit hooked up would be the same as having an aftermarket one (in terms of loosing funtions controlled by the stocker) so I disconnected it and all I think I lost was the door chime. The dome light worked, the DIC worked, is there anything else I should check? Is there a harness that dosnt loose anything? I dont really mind loosing the door chimes, but if anything else goes I dont think I want to love with it.

Door chime and seatbelt chimes are part of this system (same with other warning tones like low oil etc.). Seatbelt chimes in Canada at least are considered part of the safety devices in your vehicle. As such, it is illegal for us to remove a safety device from the vehicle so we must use the interface harness that keeps the databus circuit intact and retains the full functions of the chime module.

Ok, and what would that be?  Where do I get it, and how much?  Im not about taking shortcuts and doodie like that, but I can live without the door chimes (Id perfer not to have them anyway) and if its a matter of $20 and loosing those or $170 and keeping them, Id spend the $20.  The problem comes in when I cant get a definitive answer for the 07 what will happen with the normall harness.  I know for a fact that the 05-06 if you have the base stereo, the DIC in the speedo, no CD changer, no steering wheel controls, no XM, and no On-Star (So basicly exactly like my car) that the regular harness is all you need.  So if someone can say for 100% sure that Ill only loose the door chimes (and maybe the seatbelt chimes) and NOTHING else, Id go that way.  If not (the way it looks) Ill spend the money and get the crazy harness and loose nothing gaurnteed.  I was just trying to get informed as much as I could before I made the final decsion.

Ok, I just talked to Crutchfield (not experts by any means) and they said there isnt a harness out for the 07's yet.  He basicly told me Ill loose my warning chime and because of that they dont recomend doing a stereo.  I asked about using the harness for the 05-06 and he said it would no work, and that they are hoping for a harness to come out for the 07's soon.  So going off that alone, I think Ill wait.

How sure are you that those work?  I know there the right ones for the 05-06, but the 07 is different from what Ive heard.  Either way, where is a good place to get them?
