Does anyone have any experience with this Eclipse sub? I am building my brother a system for his new 2007 VW Jetta, so far we have these products ready for install:

Head: Eclipse CD5435
4 channel: Alpine PDX-4.150
Mono amp: Alpine PDX-1.1000

We listened to the Eclipse SC8365 3-way component set and are waiting to hear the new Alpine Type-X pro before purchase.

But the real question is, how does that Eclipse SW8200 sub sound? The local shop doesn't have one in stock to listen too. Between that sub and the Alpine Type-X new generation, what would you guys say?

I just got one and it sounds good but bottoms out big time if turned up or with low notes, still trying to figure out what the problem is. im running a 1.5 sealed box and am wondering if putting it in a 4.0 sealed box will help at all. hopefully someone can help me out here.

A larger box will probably make it bottom out easier, I would think.

If bottoming out on the low low notes, couldn't you just use a subsonic filter if you have one? Are you overpowering it by chance?

I am using a subsonic filter and that helped a little, but ive seen these subs played loud and the excursion is insane. My subs bottoms out way before ever reaching high excursion. If its not the box im starting to think its a problem with my head unit.

What size sub is it.....and how much power to it?

12 inch sub powered by a phoenix gold 1000.1 which is 700 watts at 4 ohms which is right around what the sub can handle, and im sure the amp is a little over rated so its probabely actually a tiny bit under what the sub can handle.

The weird part is i have an 8 inch mtx sub also and with both hooked up to different rca outputs in my pioneer head unit the eclipse was getting almost no power, when i disconnected the mtx so i only had the PG amp hooked up for the eclipse it got a lot louder and sounded better. AND at first i hooked up a cheep jbl sub and it bottomed out in the same way, so im really starting to think that theres a problem with the output on the head unit. maybe not enough volts? Ive checked everything else...amp, wiring, box are all perfect. not to say that the sub doesnt sound great at medium levels, great for double bass pedal, but a lot of rap songs it just bottoms out.
