choosing mp3 player

Do anyone know which companies of MP3 players offer car adapters to their MP3 players? I am looking to buy my first MP3 player, but it has been difficult search to choose which MP3 player I can take with me inside my car. Please help.

factory deck?  aftermarket deck?  some of the new dodges and ford have an audio in jack on the deck to plug in any sort of audio device.  Aftermarket deck companys seem to really be pushing ipod nowaday.  overpriced players imo.  you can get another brand with more storage and features for half the price.  stupid market cornering.

It depends on what level of functionality you are looking for out of the interface. If you want to be able to control any aspect of the mp3 player through the deck, you are looking for an ipod. if you don't care about control through the deck than Archos makes a wide variety of mp3 players. I have an archos gmini400 that has a compact flash reader and could play videos and store pictures a couple years before ipod could, and at the time it was less money for more features than any ipod. The only really nice thing about ipod is that most decks that are ipod controllable also charge the device. with the gmini I need to use a car charger. 

I've got an ipod hooked to my alpine and it's sick. i can control my ipod through my deck and it charges along the way and i can hide it where ever i want because of the fact that my deck controls it and i dont even have to touch my ipod further than plugging the cord in the bottom. ALSO a huge thing with this is it's a direct connection for hte best sound quality possible. another nice thing is it doesnt sit out in the open for people to see and try to steal when im not in my car.

but choosing an mp3 player is based off what youre going to use it for.. strictly mp3's, movies, pictures, portable hard drive, ease of use, and cost is usually a factor -- i work at best buy and these are the main things that come up with people buying an mp3 player. i personally have an ipod because i've tried everything out and i like them more than any other and im willing to shell out a few extra dollars but its all personal preference.

The answer was sorta touched on by all of those replies above. The mp3 player you end up with will depend on the head unit in your car. If it has iPos control, then you are stuck with an iPos. Nothing else will work with it. One benefit (probably the ONLY benefit, really) to the iPos is the automatic charging function.

If you have an auxilary in, then you can use any mp3 player, as all of them have a headphone jack, which is all an aux input needs. I, too, love the Archos stuff. I use the AV500, which is an AWESOME piece of kit, if the battery life is a little short. I am willing to put up with a shorter battery life for audio quality, which the Archos gear delivers in spades. I encode ALL of my compressed music at 320k, which drastically affects battery life, but I still get about 4 hours out of a charge. If I carry the charger with me, there is no issue, though, as I also have an inverter permanently installed in my car, so, no isues with AC for it.

If your deck offers iPos AND auxilary input, then you can use anything in the world as far as portable audio devices, even portable cassette or CD players...

personally not a fan of FM transmitted signals if possible to run a hard line direct.. and even with stock decks Peripheral, just one of the many brands out there but the main one we carry at best buy, make harnesses that tap into or go between the stock harness and stock deck so you can connect an mp3 directly
