just wanted to find out what you all thought about putting a wood ring for rear deck speakers.

I am putting a set of Polk DB6500 in my rear deck and was not sure if it would be beneficial to build a set of 1/4" rings for the 6.5s.

What do you all think?

That's what Haem did in the doors of his Civic. Looked pretty nice but I'm not really sure what the accoustic reasoning behind it was.

cool...

that is what I am trying to find out here. I did some rings for a 6x9 kicker sub, but could not tell if there was a difference in the sound quality.

My rear deck is treated now(dynamat), but I am not sure if adding a medite ring will help or not.

It should help, I have done it on all of my speakers along w/ sound deadener. I am a firm believer that your equipment is only as good as your install, so every little bit helps.

I did it for spacing... No acoustic reasoning at all! ROFL YOU try putting Adire Extremis 6.8's in the door of a Civic! posted_image

Acoustically, I am sure there is SOME benefit, but the doors still need quite a bit more mass to be really damped perfectly (the panels still vibe a bit) but I am pretty sure there was some affect on the system quality!

It all reminds me of something that Molière once said to Guy de Maupassant at a café in Vienna: "That's nice. You should write it down."

for dampening the door panel, I fiberglassed the non-exposed side and then sprayed some dacron to it.

it sounds like a different door now... and it's much stiffer too.

I am going to use 1/4" hardwood, like the stuff pegboard is made of WITHOUT the holes.
