I've read numerous tutorials on how to do this and it never turns out like it should.

First I'm running a Hifonics ZX6400 and a Hifonics Brutus BX1500D.
Car-1999 Mercury Cougar
Headunit-Pioneer DVH-P5000MP 2.5v output
Front Stage-Kicker 6.2s
Rear Fill-Kicker 6.2s (I carry passengers)
Sub-Kicker L5 1502
That covers my system currently. Now on to my issue. The gain(input sensitivity) settings range from 0.2v-9v. When testing the voltage to the speaker terminals I'll get the range of .2 to 9 pending on where the knob is set. That seems more like its just setting the voltage to match the deck output. Is it because of my amps that its reading this way? Or maybe because there is no load?

The proper way to gain an amp is to turn the gains all the way down, turn the volume up until you get distortion, then turn it one click down from there. At that point, adjust gains the same way. This will let you acheive maximum volume with minimal distortion while also giving you a good amount of control over the volume. Also, when adjusting your sub amp gain, turn the sub control on your deck all the way up.
