Hey guys, I need some advice as there seems to be some incredible knowledge and tallent on this site. I am planning an new install into my Crossfire (hatchback), and want to build for SQ. I am looking for advice on whether I should use both my subs (listed below) or one, and placement options for best SQ. I currently have 2 Rockford Fosgate Punch Power dual voice coil subs, an Alpine PDX1.1000 to run them, and Canton QS 2.160 front stage which is going to be run by an Alpine PDX 4.150 Now my question is, first, should I run 1 or two of the subs, and second, considering the size of the cabin and that its a hatchback, where should I mount the sub/s (placement) and what type of box. Thanks guys and I look forward to your suggestions!

Well, number one, get rid of the Rockfords... SQ, they AIN'T. I'd look into something (ANYTHING) else, I like TCSounds drivers, especially the TC1000's. Can't be beat for the money... Secondly, your choice in amps is top notch. (A TC1000 10 inch isobarik system with the 1.1000 is going into my Civic this weekend. I am also using a pair of 4.150's for 6 channels, and 1200 watts for my doors... No, I'm CERTAINLY not over the edge...) My door compliment will be an Adire Audio 6.8, with 300WRMS each, a Vifa D-26 with 150WRMS each, and JL Silk dome tweeters (VR Series, IIRC) with 150WRMS each. I will be controlling it all with a pair of Alto Mobile UCSPro EQ's with 48dB/octave crossover slopes and 31 bands of parametric EQ each, one for the doors, and one dedicated to the bass.
One sub, in the 10 or 12 inch range will usually be enough in a car, especially for SQ (Some may not think so, but as a reformed bass-head, I can say you'll probably be happy with one very nice 10 or 12 incher)
As far as placement, I am not familiar enough with the Crossfire to make any kind of edjamucated guess... I prefer forward facing, myself, but some claims say you can achieve better output if faced backwards.

I would agree with the say goodbye to the good ol' Rockfords of yesteryear. In place I would look at a pair of Eclipse SW7200 12" aluminum cone subs in a nice small sealed box. Really nice low end extension, not a one note wonder and for years has been a highly proven performer in the SQ arena. They are a TC Sounds manufactured sub (score 1 for hamfist). They are also one of my favorite subs and have been for years now. The sole reason for the two sub approach is to effectively use the power that the great little Alpine amp can produce. There are other options on the table (cough Morel Velvet Hammer cough), mind you the options will depend on your investment you wish to make. More output is usually found by rear firing the subs, to tame things down some, like Dave recommended and does practice, fire them forwards. It may well be worth your time to build a basic box and try it in each direction to see hands on what effect it has for your tastes. Dave, TC Sounds in Canada is not in the customers best interest. The shipping, duties, lack of support, it just does not add up here in the Great White North. TC Sounds has yet to respond to multiple requests from me at the same time. How on earth are they going to respond to a individual when they cannot respond to a dealer. At least with the Eclipse route, all avenues are covered. ------------- Top Secret, I can tell you but then my wife will kill me.

Soundsplinters are TC based drivers and the customer service is great. Reasonably priced and good sq. Worth a look.

I didn't read the OP's loca... Sorry. I was also unaware of the issues that you Great-White-Northers have with TC. That's a shame...
The Eclipse aluminums are a fantastic choice as well, those were also favorites of mine for quite some time, until I found TCSounds - the OEM for many of their long(er) throw woofers. I was running Eclipse Ti's, (both a 10 and a 12 - not at the same time  ) but the Aluminums are AWESOME sound quality drivers... If Rob can help you out with those, go that way!
