2 ohm problem?

Ok, so I have a sony CDX-F7710 head unit. I'm waiting for my local audioshop to get their new stock of 2ga wire, so while I was waiting I decided to conect my speakers directly to my head unit. Originally I had 2 6"x9" JBL927 speakers in the back..and thats it. I had no problems then. Now, I connected my JBL GTO607C speakers, and If i play the music anywhere above 50% of its max loudness for anything longer than like 1 minute the head unit shuts off, then attempts to turn back on. If i don't turn the music down it will continue in this cycle. If I turn it down it plays again as if nothing had happened. Anyways, I'm pretty sure there is no problem with the wiring...afterall all I did was add two speakers. So all the speakers are 2 Ohm speakers...could that have anything to do with the problem? (My amp is 2ohm capable, so once its connected I hope I wont have any problems)

Head units aren't SUPPOSED to run 2 ohms, let alone two PAIR! And if you are planning on running all of those speakers on one amp, you are going to either be running 4 ohms or 1 ohm...
I hope you keep this in mind when you connect your amp, but for now, the deck is seeing either an overheating condition, or possibly an over-current condition, THAT'S why it's shutting down.

The amp I will be running is a 4 channel JBL amp. I am not at all worried about that. I know it will work fine. The other thing, on my component speakers box (GTO607C) there is a picture with a headunit, 4 ohms, and a check mark. Indicating that it can be connected to the head unit. Anyways, thanks for your info. I thought it was because they were 2 ohm speakers, and I'm right. I just can't wait to for my 2ga wire.

Ok, so the last comment got me wondering a little. The amplifier I plan on using is the JBL PX300.4 Rated at 169W RMS x 4 channels at 2 ohms, 14.4V supply and <1% THD +N. Ok so its rated at 169 W x 4channels. at 2ohms, does 2 ohms mean per channel or the overall resistance of all 4 speakers?
