Had a customer in the shop to day. ALL stock....not one piece of after market anything. The wife drives the rig. For the last 6 months the rig has developed one hell of an acoustical tachometer. The stealership has replaced the alternator, the guage cluster (cause the whine played with engine rpm. NOW they tell the guy.....it's the amp!! Yet, shut the car off, no noise. To me this eliminates the amp. I could be wrong. with the key on, engine off, open the door and set off the door dinger key reminder.....HOLY cow, what an awful noise. NOW the dealer wants to replace an 800.00 bose amp..... ha ha!
Just wanted to get some opinion/ideas. I am not doing any work on the unit......unless I replace ALL the Bose crud.

It could be the amp and if it has lost its internal ground plane would only make alternator whine when the engine was running. It could also be anything i the ignition system, including the ECU, spark plugs, plug wires, distributor cap... $800 for the OEM amplifier is a common dealer (gouge) price.

That's funny... Can I use that?

It all reminds me of something that Molière once said to Guy de Maupassant at a café in Vienna: "That's nice. You should write it down."
haem..... feel free. It's the truth. (stealership I read here on the 12volt)
acoustical tach......sounds better than engine whine!
