I am looking for some advice on what to get.  I have a 2005 civic 4 door and want to replace the speakers.  I replaced the HU with a Phase Linear unit with DVD and screen.  Now I want new speakers but don't want to blow a lot of money.  I am not looking for comp, just a decent sound, better then the OEM.  Thoughts?

Good quality low-cost speakers include Alpine Type S, Infinity Reference, Pioneer, Kenwood, Rockford or Kicker.  Avoid brands like Boss, Crunch, Blitz, Lanzar, Pyramid, Pyle, Audiobahn, Performance Technique, Dual, Phase Linear...  Go shopping and listen to them and buy the ones you like the sound of.

Powerbass S series all the way!  I sell the 6.5" in my store for $59, and the 6x9" for $89, so they're definitely affordable and I think they sound really good!

Polk Audio DB series are fairly affordable and marine certified this year.  A little less expensive but still good are fusion.

How about LightningAudio, manufactured by RockfordFosgate (says on the box)? At Wally-World you can get them for $40 a pair, that's for the 6x9's so the smaller ones are less expensive.

I think this is a nice topic and should be continued...

Almost all brands carry entry level equipment, use you ear and determine what you like. I think the powerbass speakers are flat sounding and audiomaninc likes them, get my pointposted_image. And yes I sell powerbass, just my opninion.....

I take offense to that remark! posted_image  Am I not supposed to like the speakers because I sell them?  I'm a bit confused...

Not trying to offend, I meant I sell them also. I personally don't like how (pb)they sound, but you do. In other words what sounds like arse to me sounds good to someone else, as in everybody has thier own taste.

I see I see, no offense taken, I was just kidding.  Anyways...you make a strong point!  It's strange how no matter how expensive a speaker is, or how cheap it is, there's always someone it'll sound great to and someone it'll sound like crap to.
