I was looking at the users manual of the alpine pdx-1.600 mono amp, and found it's rated at 600w rms @ 4 ohms and 600w rms @ 2 ohms.  I thought power was supposed to increase when resistance is reduced.  Can someone explain this to me?

It's a "smart" or "regulated" power supply. It is regulated to 600 watts out, and it's not load dependent.

The 1.1000 does exactly the same thing.

Normally, though, you are right. As you decrease the impedance, the output will increase, with a non-regulated power supply.

It all reminds me of something that Molière once said to Guy de Maupassant at a café in Vienna: "That's nice. You should write it down."
