Ok I have posted before about this amp. MTX TE1501D. I have this amp and an Alpine 4 channel. Today I disconnected the 1501D, taking out the fuse under the hood first of course. I have done this multiple times with no problem, but this time, the 1501 didn't turn on. So I of course brought out the good ol' DMM. Everything registers at least 12.75 volts. When I put the DMM right onto the terminals of the 1501, it reads anywhere from 2.35 all the way up to 8.95. But when I connect the DMM right to the bare wire, it reads at least 12.75. The terminals on the 4 channel reads at least 12.75, as usual. I even tried replacing the fuse under the hood, no luck.
So my question to the pro's : Why does the wire itself measure 12.75-14.4, but when connecting the amp to the wire then measuring the terminals, it only reads 2.35-8.95? Is the amp messed up? Thanks for the support.

Your amp is fine.   You have a bad connection on the power or ground connection.   Or possibly a bad fuse or fuse holder.

he said he replaced the fuse.  if the power wire is reading 12.xx volts at the end connected to the ampilifyer, but when it is disconnected from the amp (does that make sense?) but then the same wire reads a major drop in voltage after it is reconnected, it sounds to me like there is something happening in the ampilifyer.  i would do this:  dissconnect every wire from the amp, then dissmount the amp from the car (eliminating a potential grounding issue) and terst the wires one at a time, connecting them, testing voltage, then dissconnecting.

if the wire is reading 12.x volts at the furthest point on the cable, it cannot be the fuse/fuseholder.
