I have a 12" Audiobahn AW1208Q that a friend sold me and was wondering whats the best budget amp i can get away with i really dont want to spend more than around 300 CDN cause im a student haha.  any suggestions would be awesome i plan on running it free-air in the trunk of a cavalier.  any tips or suggestions or anything would be awesome.  Im new to this site and i found it by chance and i have to say it is the best site ive seen on the net about car audio and DIY that ive seen.

Regards,

Jon

First off, there is an unbelievably wide variety of amps that will do the job. You only mentioned a "budget" amp and did not state exactly what your intentions are for your system. Tell us what you are trying to achieve from you system and then we can steer you in the right direction.

Second, what impedance is you sub? I believe that is a 4ohm impedance sub, but it's better that we know for sure and are not guessing here... once you know the impedance, how do you plan on wiring it?

Lastly, why are you going to run the sub free-air? You would not believe the benefits of an enclosure. (unless you have some other specific plan in mind that you have not told us)

sry if i didnt fill in enough :S kk so heres my plan i want the trunk of my car to be as nice as possible im pretty good with my hands ive been working with them since i was a kid in machine shops so i can handle most projects.  i want to show off the cone of the sub in the trunk in a fiberglass enclosure (not married to that idea yet) but i want to show off the cone regardless.  my friend said the sub can run down to 1 ohm. as for "budget" i mean something that wont cost me 1000 dollars cause to be frank im comfortable but not rich lol im only 19. in essence i want a show car trunk but a DIY version haha

One more item of clarification -- you mention that you want to show off the "cone" of the sub. Do you mean the back of the sub or the front of the sub? I guess it's just not clear to me.

Either way, if you can make a nice looking fiberglass enclosure, you'll be able to mount the subs either way. Be sure to factor in the size of the sub when you figure out your enclosure volume though.

Good luck and keep us posted. Sounds like a good project.
