If you were doing a vehicle for sound clarity, loudness, an all around excellent 6.5 component set for front and rear doors, what would you be using? Amp and Speakers... I was thinking Infinity Kappa Perfects but Im seeing some negative opinions here on the board. Trying to keep costs below $300 or so a set.

I'd double that $300 and skip the rear fill or at least use what's there, and use the $600 on some high quality components in the front in a heartbeat. Oh wait, I did.

my favorite would be the focal 165k2p. but a litle out of your price range. im going to have to agree with dwarren here. i ran just fronts in my truck for a long time while it was under construction. and didnt hardly notice the rears when i finally got them installed. if you amp your fronts properly and go ahead and leave the rears out and splooge on the fronts you will def not notice! (your passengers will hate you) unless your one of those that runs 4 6x9s in the rear and think your "tumpin" cuh!! look into the focal 165kf im pretty sure you can pick those up for around 550 or so. nice speakers if you like a slightly harsher tweeter. if you like a smooter tweeter look into the boston pro's. they should be right in the same price range.

You might also check out the Pioneer TS-C720PRS set. They did rather well in CA&E mag review. I have set of the 5.25's and they sound better than the Focal 165v's I had. Just my opinion though...

The Pioneer Premiere's are indeed a amazing set of speakers. Morel should also be on that short list.

I am going to join the recommendation band wagon, Rainbow, the Dynaudio Esotec (although these are far past the budget) and my new favorites Hertz (any set from any of their lines has been fantastic) !

I like the Focal's, but they are too bright and/or detailed for my liking.

like a 300/2? lol. i have had nothing but people wanting that combo after they hear mine. but like i said and was stated by othes. they have a real bright/harsh sound that some just dont prefer. so check around and listen to the different brands if you can.

That's how I felt about Focal component speakers as well.  But then I've always preferred a softer tweeter.  I also thought Focal components lacked low end extention and had rather poor imaging through the whole line.  The only exception I found was their 3-way set.

I have been unimpressed with the JL components we've done.  I was expecting greater things from them.  I have always been a big fan of a/d/s/ components as well as those offered by Diamond Audio.  You may want to take a listen to their speakers if you can.

I used to be a fan of a/d/s speakers and amps, in fact I used to an entire system composed of a/d/s, the ph-15 6 channel the 642csi active x-over with  AL4 and AL5 components. However my boss has a set of the 346's? or what ever the most recent set of 6.5's available and they are about as dead as can be, I belive it is due to the dei take over.

Yeah, the a/d/s/ set I had (336is.2) was well before the DEI ownership.

Woofersetc.com has Phoenix Golds Elite 6s and 5s right now for $299.99 shipped. Made by and after the Morel Elate line. That's under $300. Go w/Dynaudio as well. But watch for the fake Dyns being sold on the market right now. An AMAZING cheap set is PGs RSD6 comps. Retail for $160, you can get them on ebay for $87 shipped. Best drop in speaker $$ will buy right now.

I agree with extremej. I just installed a set of those today and they were awesome. I have a set of the hex's in my f-150 and absolutely love them as well. One of my other company trucks has the Kappa Perfects in it and I would take the Hex's or the D6's over the Infinity's any day of the week. I have yet to be dissapointed in a Diamond product.

I have to agree. a/d/s has been a mere shell of their former company since the takeover. I have the 336is.2 and they have an incredible sound. The current sets don't have the build quality or sound quality they used to.

Alpine Type-R. It is the best in the $300 range hands down, in my opinion.

Interesting comments on the Focal's. James Grammes, the national for Morel, worked in S.Cal. for 7 years as a Focal rep................. never had a set in his car!posted_image

Might tell you "something " about Focal? Just thought it was an interesting comment that James made to me. He is in Love with his product now!!! As am I!
