I just installed a new Sony CDX- GT11W in a 2002 GMC Yukon. At first the radio would work but the CD player did not have any sound. So I spliced the solid blue wire from the HU into the red wire and that fixed the problem. But now when I turn off the vehicle the unit does not turn off I have to manually turn it off. Before I spliced the two wires together it would turn off when the vehicle was turned off.

I used the solid blue wire because there was no blue wire with white stripe.

its sounds like you hooked up to a constant 12v when you should have hooked up to an accessory 12v

The red wire should be switched. I guess try splicing into the yellow wire in your headunit harness INSTEAD of the red... Although, red should be switched...

Althought, we really should be trying to figure out why you're having to hack your harness up instead of fixing the always on problem. Did you use a wiring harness adapter?

disconnect that blue wire from the red.  that is the reason the radio wont turn off.  Ive seen this before with Jvc as well.  I dont think that model has an amp turn on lead.  If im not mistaken this radio has no rca pre outs either.  i think sony assumes no pre outs - no amps - no amps means no amp turn on lead.  if you did use a harness then the blue/white from the harness needs switched power (red) and the blue wire from the radio gets connected to nothing and tapped off.    where did you buy the radio?  just curious.

it has been several years since i worked on an 02 yukon ,but i believe.

in the vehicle red is bat/constant

yellow is accessory feed

the vehicle has retained accessory power

yellow is live when the key is off until the door is opened

Orange is 12v constant, and yellow (or possibly dark green)  is 12v switched in the GM connector.  The red I was talking about would be red in the harness you purchased for the Gm connector.

you used the power antenna wire instead of the amp remote remote wire to remote on your amp... this is why it shuts off during CD... also you never connect the blue or blue/white to a 12V source as these are outs, not in's... you dont want to parrallel a voltage out to another voltage source....  as already mentioned, if you use the blue/white and not the blue everything would have been fine.... or if your HU does indeed have no amp remote circuit then just connect the amp turn on wire to the decks acc wire and disconnect using the blue power antenna wire for anything... cap it tho to make sure it doesnt short anything out...
