I'm attempting to wire my Amp rack's cooling fans to a thermo-switch. They are currently using the 12v signal wires for the amps as power wires.

These are the fans i have (there are 4 in the rack 2 pusher/2 puller)

This is the controller i bought:

I'm using this radioshack voltage regulator to step down the 12v source to the required 5v for the thermo switch
https://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productid=2062599&cp=&sr=1&origkw=voltage+regulator&kw=voltage+regulator&parentPage=search

The thermo switch was originally designed for a computer. From the controller there are two sets of wires

set1: red, black, black, yellow (which I assume to be 12v+; ground for fans, Ground for controller, 5v+)

Set2: yellow, black (which I assume to be fan + and fan - )

Does this sound right?

What kind of current does the 5 volt supply of the controller require?  The 7805 is good for 1 amp if it is mounted to a heat sink.  They run really HOT.    Also I noticed that the controller temperature range is 50 to 120 degrees.  Is this going to be in the trunk of a car?  If so you may need to rethink the top end of the range of the controller.

the controller has only 2 amp output so I'd assume the input is less than that. The combined total draw of the fans at max is 0.68 amps. I have a hatchback so the air from the entire interior is circulating and I usually keep the interior around 75-80deg. The amps themselves are in a sealed amp rack with each amp having a pair of fans pusher/puller style.
