I have an old 1st gen 225 that will be bridged at 1 ohm. I assume it will run pretty hot, but will be kept in my trunk. I've been researching fan mods, but most people seem to keep their amps in boxes with fans actually being in the box walls. Do I need to do that? What should I make the box out of if so. Also, the trunk will not really recirculate the hot air. Do I have to vent my trunk somehow? I have a reasonable general knowledge of electronics but this is new for meposted_image Thanks!

It will run hot, if you keep the #10 input power cable... I had that same amplifier, and it ran hot as hell, until I replaced the OEM power cable with a #8... I'd suggest having somebody do it for you, but it will run WAY cooler.

I actually had mine bridged into 1/2 ohm, WITHOUT forced cooling, and it never shut off, even ONCE after I did that for it!

As far as a box... Not really necessary, I'd say, but make certain there is room above it for air circulation.

I will agree with the above.   I went overkill on ours and upped it to 4 AGU..I used a set down with a 90 degree bend in it. I think lightning audio made or makes them.   it was a 4 AGU to a single 8 or 10 gauge plug.   we kinda mangled the board, but made it work and it worked quite well, and from what I know is still working perfectly running 1/2 mono running 2 eclipse alum subs.

Yeah I understand, I went overkill and ran 4ga back to my trunk, and realized that with the amp connection it wouldn't even matter! I'll have to find an install shop to do it. Should I upgrade the ground as well? Also what is a reasonable price for that to be done..

Yes, most surely upgrade the ground also. An upgraded power wire won't help unless you up the ground size, too.

I wouldn't expect it to be more than about $50.

Are we trying to fix a problem that may or may not exist yet?

I've actually done this on an old Alpine 50x2 amp before. It had a puny like 12g factory plug. I upgraded to 8g power and ground wires.

The reason I did this, is because the plug was all messed up due to people simply shoving wires into it, so it needed to be done. After upgrading I noticed a dramatic increase in SQ and volume, as well as the amp running cooler overall. I recommend to get it done.

Fixing a problem that WILL exist... Heading it off at the pass, as it were...

So apparently where I live is garbage and no one can do that. They all want to "send the amp back to Orion" which means they don't know what they're doing at all. Should I make this a diy and break my amp or leave it as it is? Not sure what to do here. BTW I live in WV 26003. Could someone on here do it?

Looks like you are going to have to put it in and see how it goes.      Keep us posted.
