enclosure for re audio sr12d4

Alright, my brain hurts, so I'm coming for help before I have an anneurism!  I picked up (2) RE Audio SR12D4's yesterday, and I'm going to be putting them in my 2003 Neon as soon as I yank the Powerbass L12's and build a box for them.  Here's the problem...I enter the parameters into the calculator at https://www.subwoofertools.com/forum/ported-box.asp and I get the plans for the enclosure.  For the "SQL" box I come up with this:  https://www.subwoofertools.com/forum/ported-box.asp?Ew=32&Eh=16&Dia=6&Xmax=18&Vd=.13&NumW=2&Vb=&Fb=&Qts=.38&Vas=3.00174&Fs=23&CE=1.5 

The problem is...how do I stuff (2) 12" subwoofers onto a 17" surface???? :o):  Is it possible to put the subwoofers on the "black" side?  If I did this, wouldn't the port and the subwoofer be out of phase?  RE says that the optimum box for this subwoofer is 1.5' tuned to 35Hz, which doesn't quite match this calc either.  I'm getting confused!  Ideally, I'd like to have the two subwoofers and the port facing the rear of the trunk with the single port in between the two subwoofers.  I have 32" wide to work with, and 16" of height.  Is it even possible to use a ported box, or should I just stick with the good old sealed box?  Any help or advice would absolutely ROCK!  Thanks very much!

I can also pick up a US Amps XT800.2 for a very very very sweet price, and I'm wondering if anybody has any news on this amp.  It's rated at 200w x 2, so it looks to be a little less than these subwoofers can handle.  Then again, rumor has it that US Amps are thoroughly underrated .  Thanks!

Yes and maybe. Whether that matters all the way out at your listening position is another story. A port only moves a lot of air at it's resonant frequency. Take an old style Coke bottle, and blow over it. Notice that the only noise it makes at all is the resonant frequency? Ports work more or less the same way. Near the port frequency, the port will be moving more than zero, and the driver will be moving less than it's max, but for the most part, the large portion of the sub's range will be handled by the driver.

As for the box...I prefer sealed boxes in cars, not ported, but I'd give the factory suggestion a shot. I can't model anything for you right now, but I'm sure someone will chime in with the quick dimensions of the port required for the factory tuning. Knock something together with particle board and see how it sounds. It'll only cost a few bucks.

Alright, so suppose I was to put both subs on the "black" side...does it matter that one of the subs will be firing almost directly into the port?

The store I work for sells USAmps and RE subs, and if I was you, I'd look into a 2000D instead of the 800.2. Those subs can take it just fine...
