I have an Eclipse SW8122 DVC 12 inch subwoofer, and the amp I currently have is not powerful enough for it. I have an Eclipse CD8052 headunit that has 8 volt pre-outs. Each voice coil on the subwoofer is 4 ohms and the subwoofer will be wired in parallel so the amp will see 2 ohms. The subwoofer is rated at 500 watts RMS and 1000 watts MAX, but from what I have heard these subs are "underrated". My main focus is on SQ, but having a little extra SPL would be nice too. Basically I need an amplifier that meets the following criteria: *up to 8-volt input sensitivity *500 watts RMS (or better) at 2ohm *2ohm stable *good SQ Any recomendations? Specific amps, or brands I should look at? Thanks in advance for any replies.

The Alpine PDX1.600 would fit that bill quite nicely.

max is a number that is made up...doesn't mean anything
I gave a 200 watt 25 dollar sub 3000 watts for a couple seconds and it lived...doesn't mean that it is rated for 200 watts rms and 3000 watts max

It's also a Class D amplifier. Don't worry about max power, ever. Forget what ANY manufacturer tells you about max numbers, they'll just get you in trouble. Alpine doesn't give a "max" power rating, so your guess is as good as mine.
That 600 watt Alpine will be a perfect match to that woofer.

Any links to any reviews on the Alpine PDX line of amps? I am considering replaceing my Eclipse XA4000 4-channel with an Alpine 4 channel from this line so they match. Is the PDX line known for its sound SQ? I have never used Alpine before, myself. Mostly Eclipse and Clarion.

I'm a convert... I had a complete Eclipse system before, and it's now all Alpine amps...
Look up some of the threads on me, (they'll be the long ones, I think) I know there is a personal review of the 4.150 in there, somewhere!
