The better BUY is the JL. The better AMP is the Zapco.

It all reminds me of something that Molière once said to Guy de Maupassant at a café in Vienna: "That's nice. You should write it down."

Hey Dave, what reasons to you have for that conclusion?  I don't have any experience with the Zapco beyond their incredible reputation so I'm curious about your thoughts.  I do however really like the 1000/1 as it is a very feature rich amp.

That Zapco has a built in, on board full function DSP. The Zapco has quite a few more features, including being able to tune it with a computer. But I do believe that you cannot adjust the most basic features w/o a computer or laptop, such as the gain. Kind of a trade off.

If I had the money, I would give Zapco a go.

Thats the beauty of the digital ref. line. The consumer CANNOT fudge up the adjustments you have made.

The laptop is needed for ALL adjustments..... CooL and safe.
