hi, i am running a

4 gauge wiring kit with 150 amp fuse.

alpine pdx-1.1000 mono amp

alpine swx-1242d subwoofer (xtype)

The problem i am getting is that the amp keeps switching to protect mode at reasonable high volume when running the dual voicecoils in paralell although the amp is 2ohm stable. What could be caausing the problem and how to stoip it happening?? or how should i wire the sub voicecoils up diagrams would be appreciated

many thanks

mike

If you end up with even a tenth of an ohm below 2 ohms, those PDX amps will go into protect mode. Sadly, this is what is happening. even though the woofer SAYS it is dual 4 ohms, that's 4 ohms NOMINAL. You will actually be doing about 1.8 ohms. They DON'T do less than 2 ohms at all. A better choice of woofer for you would have been (and would be still, if you can exchange it) a DVC 2 ohm woofer, and wire the voice coils in series, for a 4 ohm load. The amp will make the same amount of power.

It all reminds me of something that Molière once said to Guy de Maupassant at a café in Vienna: "That's nice. You should write it down."
