replace home woofer w/ car woofer?

I blew my dad OLD hitatchi tower speakers with a 12" woofer and i cant find a replacement home audio woofer, so i was just going to buy a cheap 12" car sub and replace it with that. Will that work??

Watch the ohm rating and recommended enclosure size. home ususally = 8ohm

ya the sub is 4 ohm and the crossover is 6. Would a resistor help???

look at partsexpress.com They usually have something that will work. No use can't use a resistor, do a forum search and read why.

Will it work?  Sure.  Will it sound good?  Not a chance.  The only way to replace a woofer in a commercial set of speakers and have any chance at all of it sounding correct is to replace it with the exact same woofer.  Since it's an "old" Hitachi speaker, the chances that you'll find a suitable replacement are slim to none.  Time to buy new speakers.

Ya unfortunately replacement speakers that add up to the quality and sound of these speakers are about $700.00 and up.. He originally purchased them for $1500.00 like 15 years ago.

I actually got good results doing this with a cheapo subwoofer in an old cabinet speaker box.(did some modding as well :D) Pics if anyones interested
