How much of a gap is requiRED / recommended between the back end of a subwoofer and the box? I remember 1.5", but I am not positive.

enough to let the pole vent breath properly if there is a pole vent...if not than it doesn't matter

How much space is needed to breathe properly?

Whatever the diameter of the vent hole is, I'd allow no less than that diameter, but preferably 2 times; i.e. if you have a one inch hole, no less than one inch, but 2 inches would be better.

It all reminds me of something that Molière once said to Guy de Maupassant at a café in Vienna: "That's nice. You should write it down."
