I've noticed that on about all Alpine products they claim 'bass engine ready'? My SPS-1015 tweeters claim it, too.

What is it?

Alpine's "Bass Engine" is their term to desribe the adjustable subwoofer output on their head units. There used to be three levels, Bass Engine, Bass Engine Plus and Bass Engine Pro according to a varying group of features. Now it is just known as Bass Engine. I have no idea on why any reference to it would be on anything else but head units, but on tweeters? Beats me.

Yeah, that's why I asked, cause I don't know why tweeters (speakers in genital) would have this 'feature'.

Do you know what the difference between the 3 is?

The difference between the 3 in the past was headunit options, such as Bass engine had an adjustable re-out, bass engine plus frequency adjustments for your speakers instead of standard bass, mid, treble, and the Bass Engine Pro had x-overs with attenuation, sub control, time alignment, frequency control and so on. Nothing to do with speakers.

From what I was able to gather, the Bass Engine feature describes a higher voltage output than in standard mode.  The term, as used on the speakers, would indicate that they are capable of handling the higher power if Bass Engine is used.  A marketing ploy more than anything else, most likely.  It is intended to promote the proprietary Alpine feature and tempt the user to buy all components of the same family.

Build the box so that it performs well in the worst case scenario and, in return, it will reward you at all times.

Where do I sign up for those? Does it hurt? Would insurance cover that installation? BWAHAHAHA

It all reminds me of something that Molière once said to Guy de Maupassant at a café in Vienna: "That's nice. You should write it down."

A marketing ploy, I figured. 'Hey, it has the word Bass on it! It's gotta be loud!'

You know, when you're in an accident and the sub-box flies up and puntures them. No insurance coverage, the box wasn't secure.
