Hey guys. quick question. I have a 94 jeep that i use for offroading a lot, so i have my main switch panel for lights, winch, etc where my radio goes. I relocated the radio into the center console. (vertically, facing sideways). However it is a little difficult to control in there, and I am trying to get rid of as many interior panels as possible. Here is my idea, and please tell me if you can help with any info. I would like to put the radio itself into an alternate location and use a ribbon cable to extend the faceplate and mold it into the rear view mirror. Does anyone know if there is a ribbon cable made that would fit, or if I will have to fab my own. In addition, is there any length of cable that would be too long (ie too much resistance) to allow the radio to work? Has anyone else done this before? Is it feesible?
Thanks in advance.
Kenny

I know it can be done, as I have seen faces in visors and the radio located else where, only problem is I don't know how exactly. But, I have seen it discussed on this site, so you may want to do a search here. -------------

look into pc ribbon cables. count the pin outs between your deck and your faceplate match accordingly. Hope you have skills soldering. Putting the face in the mirror is not hard as it sounds. I did one a while ago. Let me know if you run into some bumps in the road, I may be able to help. We actually put the lcd inside the mirror and removed the mirrored crap to see the lcd. Of course this was a cd player with the thummer remote that attached to the steering wheel. Make sure you have a few donor mirrors, it took me a couple of shots to make a it perfect.
