Do ANY heads play DVD MP3 discs?  I think an MP3 disc must be a CD.  The only thing a conventional DVD player will play is a DVD encoded as a video disc, or a CD.  I don't think there are any car players that can even handle a DVD-A.  There might be a newer head that will handle a DVD as a large storage disc and be able to play MP3s (or other digital audio files) off it, but I have not seen one yet.  Any ideas from the dealers out there?

Bzzzzt.  ;-)  Here's the correct scoop on MP3-DVDs and DVD-Audio.  I have the JVC KD-AVX2 which (along with my 12 disc CD changer) will play MP3s burned onto DVD discs. Yes, I could theoretically cram ALOT of MP3s on a DVD!   My JVC will also play DVD-video and DVD-audio (and decode DD and DTS 5.1).  Alpine had (still may offer) a deck or two that could play DVD-A. They are very rare but there are heads out there that will play DVD-A, and do 5.1 decoding in-the-chassis. I think Alpine has a stand-alone unit that will decode 5.1, etc but not allow DVD-A playback.

The Dire Straits album Brothers in Arms in DVD-A format (5.1) is simply amazing.

the Alpine DVA9965 plays dvds, CDs and MP3s. And i believe an older alpine DVA9860 did the same too. Not sure about the DVD-A though.

I own an Alpine DVA-9860 and it will not play DVD-A or read a DVD as a data disc.  It will read any DVD video disc and decode 5.1.

I doubt there is any 12-disc CD changer that will read DVDs, unless you are burning a DVD as a CD.

alright, Thanks for the info, would a car dvd player read dvds as data discs? or have car manufactures kept dvd data away from cars altogether?

I don't know of any DVD-ROM capable head units, except for Navi units? I'm sure if they require a disc it would be a DVD-ROM for the maps and such. Why do you want data capability?  I think a car-pc would provide you much more flexibility, options, etc.

Yeah burning as a CD is an option, but I mis-typed that. I meant that my 12 disc changer will play discs burned with MP3s on them. The head will do the Giga-MP3 feature though (DVDs burned with MP3s).
