factory system interfacing with a loc

I want to add a sub to my existing system, however I have a unique set up and need some advice before proceeding. My current set up is as follows:

Factory HU, Line out Converter (LOC), USB4065 4 channel x 65 wrms amp, Infinity 6012i 6.5's in the doors and MB Quart DKC169 6x9's in the rear deck of my 05 Honda Accord LX 4dr. According to my amp's manual I can add a sub in Tri-Mode, but I am unclear how or if I need to run the sub's speaker wires thru the LOC. Because I did not have the time to do my own installation I do not know how the shop actually wired up my system as I have no experience with LOC's, so any knowledge that you can pass my way would be greatly appreciated.

The LOC gets the full signal from the original speaker wires and feeds the signal to the USacoustics four channel amp.  The amp has a pass-thru feature that will allow you to pick up that full range signal and send in on to another amp (daisy chain).  Your sub amp will get its signal this way.

I highly recommend adding a class D mono amp to power your sub.  Don't expect miracles out of your 4065 amplifier;  it is fully loaded as it is.  It gets pretty warm, doesn't it?  I have the model USC4065 myself, and the pass-thru is two jacks labelled "OUT".

I've already got my system installed, which was accomplished locally. They did a pretty poor job of wiring and now I'm faced with either living with it or fixing it myself. I'm not clear as to how these lineout converters interface with the existing factory wiring and need your help to determine how to re-wire my system. From what I can tell from the supplied diagram I got with my Scosche FAI-3 loc the speaker wiring from my factory harness should go directly into the loc and from there I'm lost. I'm sure that there has got to be a splice point for each speaker wire. Can someone please walk me thru this?

Mike, thanks for the answer. I assumed that was the case, but had no real clue as to what I might find once I started tearing things out.

I do have another question with regards to LOC's. If I want to add additional speakers to my system, but only have a 4channel LOC, can I tap into one of the other speaker wires and then run that to my amp? I was thinking about adding an 8" sub to help round out things and my thoughts are to tap into my rear speaker wires (+ from one speaker and the - from the other) and then into my sub. Will that work?

No.  The LOC gets the signal via speaker level (high  level).  Your 4 channel LOC should be connected to the factory speakers at all four (front and rear) locations.  The LOC converts this high level signal to line level and supplies the amplifier with four inputs...front L and R, back L and R.  It is now up to the amplifier to supply power to the speakers.  The four channel amp will provide for all four front and rear speakers.

To add a subwoofer, get another amplifier.  Connect the second amp to the full range line output provided by the four channel amp.  Then set the LP filter on the sub amp (HP filter is used on the four channel amp).

No they also make 2 channel LOCs. You still splice into the speaker wires and then plug your RCAs into the LOC. An LOC takes high level inputs and converts them into a low level signal, that way you can run any amp, including a mono block or 2 channel. A 4 channel amp is not a neccessity in order for a sub amp to work with a factory system

i must be retarded, because i still don't see how that allows my speakers to work like normal?? If i splice into the stock speaker wires and run them through a loc how can they return to the speakers without me running all the wires from an 4 ch amp back to them....or is this what people are talking about when they are looking to tap into a rear speaker?? just use a two channel LOC? 

Can I use a 4 channel for the time being and only use two of the channels if that is the case?  Thanks again to everyone helping me out.
