I have a question about amp wiring. All amps have the suggestion and max wiring guage and it states not to use a larger size. My question is if you use a reducer on a amp to fit bigger wire will it damage your amp or give it an extra boost is it recommended. Ex. I have (2) 200watts peak amps 4 guage max and (1) 3200 peak amp 4 guage max. Now if I rewire them to zero guage (power/ground) what will happen also is it worth it?

Are these your present amplifers that state NOT to use a larger gauge wire? I've never seen that ever in any amplifier manual stating "do no use a larger gaufge wire". Nothing will happen, but (other than appearance) you'll gain little to nothing, performance-wise. Your price to performance ratio will be completely SHOT!

NOW, if (as in one case, the Orion HCCA225, which came with a #10 power wire, pre-attached) the amplifier comes with or recommends a wire gauge that is too small, if you replace it to a proper gauge, you WILL gain...

Do the math:

200 watts (peak) = roughly 100 watts RMS 100 WRMS/14.4=6.9A
3200 watts (peak) = roughly 1600 watts RMS 1600 WRMS/14.4=111A

CERTAINLY the two 200 watt amplifiers could be run together off of a single 10 gauge, but the 4 gauge recommendation for the 3200 watter is appropriate, and you'll gain little to nothing, ESPECIALLY jumping all the way to a 1/0 cable. I am figuring 100% efficiency, but even at 50%, you won't get much...

It all reminds me of something that Molière once said to Guy de Maupassant at a café in Vienna: "That's nice. You should write it down."
