car wont start?

Hey guys im in the process of taking out my system in my truck. Well i took out the three batteries and all my amps and subs i have in my cab and when i went to start the car it wouldnt turn on. My volt meter was reading like 8. something volts and to turn it on i have to have it jumped. Any suggestions on what it could be. My fuses by the battery under the hood looked fine. The alt is fine as well it idles at like 13.7 volts. thanks.

...and when it was parallelled with two OTHER battereis, it was masked. Replace your underhood battery, and I can almost guarantee that your issues will end.

I agree with haephyst, you have a bad battery. The at rest voltage of the battery is suppose to be between 11.5 - 13.v any lower and the vehicle will have problems starting it at all.

Hey guys i disconnected the batt under the hood and it read 12.7 volts or so and i checked the alt voltage, the fuses and everything seems fine. I even bought a batt charger slash starter and it charged the battery to 14 volts and it still wouldnt turn over. I checked my anl fuses and the ones in the ones in the box under my hood.

You cant accurately tell the charge of a battery, or what it's state of life is by reading the voltage with a meter. A meter adds NO load to the battery to drag it down, whereas your starter will try to put a load of up to several HUNDRED amps on it. If the battery is sulfated, it will read a full voltage when you think it is "charged" but the battery will still be dead, and will be manifested as such by NOT CRANKING THE STARTER. Sound familiar? Also, stop chasing the fuses. If the car runs perfectly, other than needing a jump-start, then fuses are NOT the issue.

I'm telling you, replace the battery, that's going to fix your issue.

To test the theory, take one of the OTHER batteries, the ones you just removed, and install it in place of the underhood battery. Ten to one, it'll work. Then, once you do that, and the engine starts, take the presently-underhood battery to your nearest battery or autoparts shop, and have it load tested. It'll be bad.

I put in a another one of batteries and still no luck. When i turn the key over it doesnt make a sound or show any intention to start up. What else could it be

Could be any number of issues with your starter.  Sounds like time for a tow to the shop.

This sounds to me like the OEM ground has come disconnected from the chassis somewhere, if you are jumping the car correctly, by using the positive battery terminal, and a chassis ground. If you are jumping the car by connecting both terminals of the battery, to both terminals of the other car's battery... Then I got nothin', beyond my already attempted fixes.

You can test this theory by connecting a jumper cable from the negative battery post and the chassis, effectively "repairing", "replacing" or "bypassing" (chose your phrase here) the OEM ground wire.

It was the the stock ground to the chassis. I finally got it running. Thanks guys for all the help.
