I am looking to change the head unit for a 2003 Accord. Is there any kit available for it right now?

quoted from install_tech:

No one currently makes kit for your Accord. When it is available, it will be expensive and be similar to the 99-Up Ford Taurus kit where you actually have to replace the whole assembly. Send the 4 kit makers (METRA, BEST-KITS, SCOCHE, & AMERICAN INTERNATIONAL) an e-mail to see when a kit will be developed.

Thanks for the info. Jeff. The way I see it. I think the whole assembly has to be replace. That's very bad news in this business because a lot of people don't want to pay a lot of money on the kit just to put an after market headunit on plus the GST and PST killer. I am sure you can relate.

Unfortunately alot of manufacturer's are following what Ford did to their Taurus & Mystique lineup wherer the whole dash is now integrated into the HVAC & radio controls. Bad for the consumer, but good for the customizer's who get customer's that have too much money than time, it you know what I mean posted_image

Just out of curiosity I checked on crutchfield to see what they have about this vehicle.  I put in "2003 accord sedan w/out navigation system" and it filtered stuff out and here's what it came up with for some of the install details:

"

  • The aftermarket receiver needs to be mounted in the lower portion of the dash opening.
  • The free installation kit provided with your receiver purchase also includes the necessary wiring adaptor to connect to the factory climate control center as well as your new receiver.
  • "

As far as the actual connections are concerned, I have no idea how crutchfield instructs it to be connected or whether or not the factory radio is still used, but I just wanted to make sure you knew that it appears it's technically possible to put an aftermarket head unit in this vehicle.  You should double check with their sales people, and also see if they offer this kit for purchase separately.

I must admit it certainly doesn't seem like a very good spot to put the radio--getting to it is no problem, or else honda wouldn't be installing their optional mp3 players and cassette players in this spot.  But having to look down away from the road all the time just to see the display of an aftermarket radio doesn't seem like the safest ideaposted_image!  Good luck and let us know how things turn out!

This kit only allows you to put another head unit in not replace the existing.  This would suck!  You would have the factory high on the dash and the after market low on the dash.  Boo stick with the factory, use this to add a in dash flip out screen, that is the only use I see this would be.
