i recently install a cva-1004 HU in a 2001 Chevy Tahoe with no RDS system. just the basic wiring harness. the customers speaker output on the cva-1004 were blown, so i soldered the the speaker wires from the harness to rca's and plug them into the one sub out on this headunit. the factory amp wasnt bypassed and turns on with no problem. the HU plays but when u adjust the volume there is no increase or decrease until i get to 0. from previous experience i know the sub out can be volume controlled when using a aftermarket amp. and i remove the HU from the previous vehicle, so i know it was opperating just fine then.

could it be the factory amp not allowing the volume control? never had this problem before

If you wired your factory wire to the aftermarket rca deck the rca are a preout set volume which means you can control the volume from your deck so get a amp and you should be able to control it then
