Hey, I just installed my system which consists of an amp and components in the front.

It sounds great, but when the engine is running there is a static sounds comming from the tweeters.

With the engine off, and running it off the battery, there is no static whatsoever.

Any ideas what the problem could be?? I checked all my leads and they are good.

yes the headunit is a pioneer..

but this static happens in cd-mode and radio mode, but only when the engine is running!

HELP please, this is driving me nuts!

You need to take a piece of 18 Ga. wire about 12 inches long, Strip a 1/2 inch of the insulation off of each end of the wire. Ground one end to whatever you have your radio grounded to. Then you will need to solder the other end to the outer shiny part of your patch cord. Patch cord = the cable that connects your radio to your amp.

hmm what exactly the purpose of doing this?

When you mean ground it to the radio do you mean slice in into ground wire in the harness?

also, this patch cable... do you mean the rca cables? Which one do I solder it to, there is the R and L. Both?

The purpose is to "fix" the problem that pioneer has with putting a weak fuse on the ground path for the rca's. This fuse blows very easily, and the wire just completes the circuit. You may have some other problems since it only happens when the engine is running, but with a pioneer radio, that is the first thing that i check. You may want to check your ground to make sure it is up to snuff, and also make sure your gains are set correctly.

Ground it however you like. Either side of the RCA cable will work Left or Right.
