On my amplifier to my components up front, I have options to use High Pass Filter, Low Pass Filter, and Full Range.

I also have external crossovers going to my mains up front. When tuning the system, can I use both or is this bad news?

what is the crossover point for the high pass section on your amp?

I choose the range on the high pass filter.

ok, so you have a variable high pass filter.  you could use both crossovers (the one on the amp, and your outboard) as long as you dont set it too high.  how low can you set the crossover point?

You know what kamberkash, thanks man, you've helped me realize the answer to my own question. Do what sounds good, right?

exactly.  there isnt any reason why you couldnt use both crossovers, as long as youre getting the correct frequencies to the speakers.

My recommendation is to set the high pass filter for your mains the same as the low-pass filter for your subwoofer.

And always, always, unless you are building a bi-amped system and already know what you're doing, use the passive crossovers that come with a set of speakers the way they were intended to be used.
