Hello,
I'm preparing a street theatre performance which requires the use of audio. Due to the reduced dimensions of the performance, as well as aesthetic considerations, I've been considering the use of Car Audio components (amplifier, speakers, subwoofer...)... My main question is the following: Is it possible to power a Car audio amplifier via an AC 230V to 12V converter rather than using a Car Battery? The audio input signal would be via an audio mixer, channeling - in it's turn - three inputs: microphone, guitar, and audio (iPod) rather than the usual CD/radio. I would greatly appreciate, also, any further advice regarding the optimization of sound quality. The sound would be projected out and away from the sound source rather than the interior (of the vehicle, for example). Sounds a bit weird perhaps, but then it's a secondary question. The main one remains: that of using AC power via a voltage converter.

Many thanks in advance....

Yeah, most car audio shop use this in their displays. one main problem though, is at high volumnes, it is easy to overload the power converter.....so most use a converter, & a battery.....or battery charger & battery.

Also, car audio speakers are made to sound good in a car, even in a home audio environment they can do fairly well.....when my warfdales pooped out, I replaced them with some MB Quarts, & I think they sound just as good. BUT throw them in a large arena, or decent sized venue, & filling the room with quality sound will become very difficult.

If cost is a main issue, I know Carvin has some sceamin deals right now. I have used their RL18 for many years, & I have an LB75 5 string bass, that I feel plays better than basses twice the price. I know some folks have used their amps, & swear by them also.
