alright i am looking at selling my cadence tx 12's and getting 8 of the cheap lightning audio p3.(sumthin) and throwing them in the back of my celica. i had one before and it did alright for being overpowered by a kicker amp and a really big box tuned low, under high volume i could smell voice coil. this box is going to go for more spl then anything, im going to underpower the subs so i dont blow them and port the box probably around 38hz.
so my question is about box design, should i go common chamber for all of them port back subs up, or should i try a clamshell.
im not sure how a clamshell works..... i know its all the subs inline with eachother in like an octogon or something, but is the box also ported in the back?
which do you think will get my the loudest, and also being on the safe side for cheap speakers.

doing more subs is not the right way to go about getting louder.

There are single or 2 sub setups that would probably be much louder then the cheapy route.

I tried this route years ago in a festiva.   let just say it was a waste of time and money, I was stuck with 8 cheap ass subs that did nothing till I started giving them away when I was done with them.

He is right....sort of.

I had a 99 civic with one 12" Memphis mojo and two 1100d's on it in a 4.5 cu.ft box tuned to 50 hz. It was loud..ish. It hit 149.8 legal on the TL meter. total cost? $1600+ materials, wire, etc....woofer lasted about 1 day!

Now I have a HHR Panel with 12 JBL GT4 12" woofers. Each are in thier own 1.0 cu.ft sealed enclosures. I have two Soundstream 1600.2 Van Goghs bridged at 6ohms ea. The HHR has hit a 164.1 at 32 hz with the same TL mic. Woofers are totally in the comfort zone as far as power and have been getting smacked hard for three weeks ( I bought the car a month ago) and not a single fault yet. The subs play very linear and very strong from about 15hz-100hz. The system cost so far? $1450 and haven't added batteries or even wired the thing right yet. (using a single 4ga from the rear factory battery to one amp and daisychained to the second amp...total about 3 ft run)

SO.....more woofers and power is definately going to play louder/lower with less overall stress from the gear.

And yes, I do know at one time you were an SQ competitor in USACi.   So of all things you should know better then to be posting things like scores like that.

Your are running 2 amps that can draw over 100 amps each on a single 4 Ga. power wire?!? Carry a fire ext. at all times. Yeah right.

I bet it is the old TL meter, that MIGHT be conceivable.

Here is a much better example. at 1 time I had 7 Powerbass ES12DS's in a wall in my CRX, each with aa Intefire IFD1000C (each amp with a Stinger SP 1700 on it). I managed to tweak & tweak, & fuss & pulled a 148.5 on Mike Jaffe's TL. Then, at the VERY NEXT show, I pulled out all the subs & box, took my best guess at a big slot ported box for 2 MTX 9500 15's, with only 4 Interfire IFD1000C's, I got a 148.4...I think (I know I was hoping for more). After Closing off the wall, & swapping for more SPL freindly subs (Powerbass XS15D1's) I hit 155.8 at 04 USACi WF (mod 901-1800)....& can street beat it at 153's. Not the best #'s in the world, but you get the picture, & I consider what I was runnign to be on the cheap end of stuff, not flea market crap, but not Zapco or Kicker either

Also, if you need more info, take a look at passed WF results (DB Drag is good for this one) & look at scores in the 1-2 sub classes, Vs. the 5+ classes (& remember those folks are the best in the world....well with the money to play)

alright what is a good sub for the money, i would like two subs at least. i was going for power in numbers with the cheapo's lol, i know i can get more from two good subs but i wanted it for the looks. plus i wouldnt doubt i could sell the subs for a profit to kids at school. my cadence are more of a sq sub and was dissapointed with the reviews i had heard, they are not that loud just sound good.

i used to be the loudest in school then my subs broke then i got the cadence. now a friend of mine has 2 tc-1000 in a box i built and he is spanking me without pushing them that hard. i have to push my cadence like crazy to keep up with him, im afraid my subs will break again.

If you want to stay with something that sounds good, and gets loud.   You could look into the Kicker CVX subs.   4 Of these would be a heck of a shock factor.

The L7's can be had at the same price, and will get much louder in the right application.

Our last "fun" setup was a pair of Kicker L7 10's and a single ZX1500.1    For fun My GF ran it is USACi's street beat class.   It was capable of 143db for a 30 second average run, using Late nite tip, a song that averages in the 32-26hz range.   Unsing other songs in the higher 40hz to low 50hz range it was capable of over 146db and for a stright burp it was good for about 147db

This setup shocked alot of people for a pair of 10's in a civic coupe.

Have also done an install recently in a 98 tahoe.   Same equipment. Capable of 144DB. Thats a huge vehicle too for 2 10's   but it can be done.

yes i was looking at getting two 12" l7's, for right now they would only be powered by 600w rms at 4ohms, and soon i would get a larger amp. otherwise i was looking at one 18" Fi SSD. i think both setups would bang in my hatchback. but which would be louder? jeff u sellin any of your old (functional =) equiptment?

ohhh i figured i should put a price range up since that is the main factor, right now i cant spend more then say $350 and thats pushing it. i have a 1200 watt cadence amp, 600wrms x1 @ 4ohm 300wrms x2 @ 2ohm

i can get the lightning audio piles for like $23 each.
