OK I had to do a hard wire on a 2006 Monte Carlo for a satellite Radio and a GPS. Normally I just tap the accessory wire off the H/U but in the new GM's there is no accessory for the radio just the GMLAN crap. Anyway I went to the steering column for the ignition (pink wire) and only found a small pink wire. I was surprised that it was only about a 16-18 gauge wire. I found no other wires in the steering column. So I tapped off the ignition however when I turned the key to the off position something was feeding back into the ignition wire and I would hear the start try to kick over for a split second. Long story short I put a diode on it and everything worked fine. In hind site I should have used a relay. Oh and the only fuse panel I found in the car was in the passenger kick panel and everything has constant power.

Just thought I'd share.

this is because the newer GM made cars, there are no start wires. The car when it goesnt see an ignition or acc, it will try to start. Your head unit sends power back into ignition forcing it to start. Good thing i diode isolated it and its all working good. For something like an ignition wire. i suggest u use a 14004 diode.
