fried alpine headunit?

I'm installing a used Alpine CDA-9857 into my 97 Nissan Maxima. I have it all wired in and the unit powers up but there is no sound going out to any of the speakers. My friend said that probably the HU's internal amp is fried.
I was wondering is it's worth trying to get the HU's amp working or should I just wire in a separate amp to power my cabin speakers?
Or are there any other possible problems it could be that I haven't thought of or don't know about.
Any help is appreciated!

(I checked all the speakers with a 9V battery and they all worked fine. The car does not have the bose system with factory amplification)

Go into the menu and scroll thru and see if the Power IC has been turned off.

It is such a relief to know that it is not fried. That was the best sound of static I have ever heard :)
