I'm wanting to drive a home sub with one of my mono block amps from my car system. I understand that I can use a dc power supply to run the dc based amp in my home. I don't know what size or specs I should be looking for in the power supply unit. There are different amperage ratings and wattage ratings. Can someone tell me what size unit I should get? The amp I'll be driving is rated as: 900 x 1 @ 2 ohms. I might even decide to run two of those amps. Is there a powerful enough DC power supply unit out there to do it?

900W out = about 1125W in if the amp is Class D

1125W in, / 14.4V = 78A

You will need a DC power supply rated for 75A continuous to run ONE of your amplifiers. They are 1: heavy, and B: expensive by the time you get to ratings like that.

Expect to pay at least 200 to 250 for a decent one.

Easier, and cheaper? Buy a home power amplifier.

It all reminds me of something that Molière once said to Guy de Maupassant at a café in Vienna: "That's nice. You should write it down."

Much cheaper to get a home amplifier.

400 bux, and 500 watts RMS... That's where I'd go!

Here's a 40A power supply. This is a CHEAP one, and half the amount of power you need to run ONE amplifier.

Not very economical, is it?

Yeah, I've looked into it further. Way too expensive. I saw all these 25-45 amp deals for $50-$100 bucks. That's why I wanted to know just how much power I'd need from the power supply. I've got two mono blocks, a four channel and a two channel just sitting around from my last install that are just laying around doing nothing. I build a lot of home audio stuff so I thought...hey why not try this. But like you say, way too cost prohibitive. Thanks for the info!
