very nice.
can't wait to see the finished pics of the new setup. Are planning on carpeting the whole thing? Only question I have is why do you need such a humongo sized tachometer when your truck is an automatic?

Thanks,   I will post more pics when i am done, Im not sure yet if i am going to put carpet or or paint the box, im thinking about painting it and putting some crazy artwork on it, and since the only sides you can see are the top and the front I dont see any reason to paint the whole box.

The reason for the tach is that i have a built 350 with a little over 400hp and it revs to almost 8000 rpms and I like to keep close tabs on what the engine is doing and the stock tach does not go that high. I have a lot of other gauges in the truck that you just cant see in the pictures.

yes i did build the box myself, it cost less than 100 bucks for everthing you see not including the amps, speakers, and wire. the local shop wanted more than 400 for them to do it.  I should be finished with all of the wood work this weekend so i will post more pics when its done. i have decided to put carpet on it instead of paint, less prep work and i dont have a lot of time right now.

I did not know the truck was in an accident. It just looks a lot like a truck on Youtube that somebody drove into a telephone pole. It appears as though youtube links as well as fleabay links do not work here.

youtube.com and search idiot truck telephone pole    It looks a lot like your truck. Different year same color big tires etc.

Im not to worried about getting the edges perfectly smooth sense they will be wraped in carpet and you won't be able to see them.

and it sounds awsome, the rear window and the roof flex in and out about 1 inch.  I will shoot some video and post it as soon as i find a better camera.

Good job on the newer latest set up. Looks good. I admire your attention to the detail of all the wiring that wont even be seen but you know its there. You said somthing about finding carpet......Just about every Auto Zone , Orieleys and even Wal-Mart Has 3 X 6 foot rollls of grey carpet in the automotive section. I think some places call it Trunk liner. Sells for about 12 - 14 bucks or so. Should match up pretty close to your interior. Keep posting.

I saw the new setup, must have missed it the first time i looked. it looks and sounds good, is it just one big box or does each sub have its own airspace?  My box is accually a little over 12 cubic feet, but once you subtract the space taken up by the port and the sub it comes out to about 5.5 cubic feet per sub.

thanks rushman, I looked at wal-mart but the one near me didnt  have anything, I havent looked at any of the auto part stores yet but i will check them out his weekend, home depot had some that matched perfecly but it was a little more than i wanted to spend. I have found some red and also black carpet at a fabric store bt im not sure what they would look like and I dont want to waist the money if it doesnt look good.

If you fix that roof flex you can gain a few decibels. Even just taking aluminum and bending it to the curve of your roof, making "ribs", and gluing the ribs to the roof will prevent flex, plus the ancillary gain of SPL.

My internal volume which is all that matters is a total of 7.5 cu ft but with the partition in the middle it comes out to about 7.3 cu ft total. so each section has approx. 3.5 cu ft with the ports

I think they sound pretty good, the sound quality is not the best but the bass is ridiculous, they dont hit the highs much but the lows are really good. my subs are 15's so the 5.5 cubic feet is only .5 cubic feet more than kicker recommends for a ported box. im not an expert but i dont think your box is to big, your going to lose a little sound quality but as long as you like the way it sound then who gives a doodie what other people think.  posted_image

im going to be taking it to a body shop hopefully pretty soon to have some dents fixed and get some new paint. i was thinking of having them reinforce the roof and the side panels since they are going to put a new head liner it it anyway, hopefully that will get rid of most of the raddiling.

oh i thought they were 12s. but yea mine hit the highs decent but the lows flexs the side panel about an inch and the roof flexs about an inch and a half and i can do the chocolate milk trick. i bet yours can too. i had my box designed a little differant though, it is a side firing box. its on the rides and systems too, under slammin explorer. but anyways man GREAT job on the install. really clean!

Use to be a good measure of an amp was you paid about a dollar per watt for a good , clean , accurate amp. Im not sure if that holds true today but im sure its close. That formula has worked well for me for many years.

Posted By: bumpinexploder
Date Posted: July 24, 2008 at 11:21 PM
yea now with ebay and other places like that you can get away with about 50-75 cents a watt. but yea that formula is about right.

i like the way you redid the setup.  for someone who did it theirself, it looks quite professional.  i have been installing for 8 years now and i have seen good and bad...this is one of the best, if not the best, jobs i've seen by anyone who doesn't install for a living.  actually its better than some of the "installers'" jobs i've come across.  i don't say it very often to anyone outside of upper end installers but, good job.

looks good-  first thought in my head was: nice truck... then,  huh, a lot of stuff with the back seats out- he needs to build a box to fit right in there...  then, ok, there it is!  lol too funny.     looks good, and i know it feels a lot better to show off something that you built yourself.  nice work.     how do the subs sound firing up like that?  in my experience, you seem to hit a higher spl facing up or forward, but they always boom harder in the cab firing at theback wall.  my last vehicle i fired them down to a fiberglassed plate that focused everything forward- it was really too much.  the 4-twelves literally took the breath out of you and it was difficult to sit in the back seat at full volume.  but they didnt hit for squat on a meter (143.5 with about 1200rms split between them).

Thanks for all of the comments guys, but im sorry to say I sold that truck posted_image, I didnt want to but I got a great deal on an 2008 silverado that I just couldnt pass up. I loved that truck, I miss it and the system, but with gas prices these days and that truck only getting about 5 miles per gallon if im lucky I just had to do it.

As far as the system goes, it was crazy, the sound quality wasnt much to brag about but the bass was nuts, it was actually cracking my front windshield. its to bad that box doesnt fit it the new truck but im going to build a new box for it to under the back seat, I dont want to take the back seat out of the new truck. and if you wondering how those 15's are going to fit under the back seat  well there not i am going to get two 12's.

I will post pics of the new truck soon.

when u took the black trim of the side of your truck was it glued on or did it have clips holding it on, did you have to get bady work after it

Posted By: bigbev
Date Posted: June 17, 2009 at 2:55 PM
The black trim on the side of the truck was glued on, getting it off was not hard. All you have to do is slowly pull the trim off, the glue will probably stick tho the truck and to get that off you will need to get some good adhesive remover, i used 3M adhesive remover and it worked really well. Just be patiant and let the adhesive remover do the work, then just get a rag and wipe it down you might have to scrub pretty hard in some places, it may take all day to get it off.  oh and a little carb cleaner works to get some of the really stubburn spots.  let me know if you have any other questions, i wil try to help as best i can.
