Hello all. I purchased a Spy motorcycle alarm recently and need install help. I have searched the forums for an existing thread here but nothing exactly like my issues (with this alarm). These alarms are manufactured in China and like most problems here are the instructions. I am a DIY guy and hate asking for help but I guess that's why we are all here.

If anyone has installed this alarm - SPY Two Way Motorcycle Alarm 5000m - please post install instructions as well as complications that may have arose when installing. If not, at least the English version that I can understand regarding the wiring instructions.  I am sure there are a lot of these alarms flooding the market and probably going to have the same install issues that I am. Thanks for your time.

Appreciate your help.

hey my friend, i just bought it too!! :)
i installed everything ok except for one thing (1997 CBR1100XX). the damm thing keeps arming up the alarm automatically after 20sec everytime i disarm it. AND IT REALLY wizES ME OFF !!!!!!!!!!!!!
other than that all features work and for about 90 I really like it.

what problem you got?   :)

oo, not to forget to mention one thing. i didn't connect 3 wires at all. (pink, grey, black). if you did, where did you put these? all my features work though. i realized that the pink and grey wires emit negative signal for about 1sec just when you turn off the remote start of the bike...?

I still have yet to install it. I need instructions on "how to". The instructions that I got with it were a bit on the "short bus writing school" if you know what I mean. I need to get a wiring schematic so I can  get it installed. It's an 08' Gixxer Sixxer and I reckon that not a lot of installs on these yet. HAS ANYONE INSTALLED ONE OF THESE ON this bike? Help me people. I am good at lots of things - wiring is not my forte'.

I got one as well. Off ebay here in Australia. I am trying to hook it up to a gs500K6. I have the wiring diagram of the back of the manual and the wiring diagram for my bike. I will have a go at it this weekend and let you know how I go. I dont really want to do any cutting or soldering as I will be getting a new bike soon. (When i get off restrictions) and I want to hook it up to that.

I hooked it up. Red to the positive terminal and GND to the neg. It works. It doesn't have remote start or anti hijacking but I'm not really after those features yet.
aliman: If you bump the bike after you disarm it. it should not rearm. I was wondering how it would know that you aren't riding it and re-arm. Seems to work for me.
The alarm is pretty sensitive so I haven't hooked up the siren as yet. Just stomping next to it will set it off. I have heard that other alarms have sensitivity dials that need to be adjusted after a while so I guess they just make it really sensitive at the start and it wears in. I hope so other wise I will insulate it with some foam or such. HTH

Hey Screwloose I came across a site that had a different model of the alarm with better installation instructions made by the same manufacturer. Let me know if this helps you < color=#008000>www.vhf-transmitter.com/product/motor/< color=#008000>motor02-y.doc. If so maybe you can help me with the wiring of it.

That one works if you have Microsoft Word. This link should work in HTML https://209.85.165.104/search?q=cache:Uqh-U6LqdagJ:www.vhf-transmitter.com/product/motor/motor02-y.doc+motor02-y.doc&hl=en&ct=clnk&cd=2&gl=us otherwise do a search in google for < color=#003399>motor02-y.doc. Only difference I see is the black that goes to -12 is the brown wire. I am not sure but I think the blue goes to YELLOW /GREEN starter wire on bike, the red goes to red ignition, Brown to Orange, yellows to + leads on tail lights and Black to Ground. Let me know if you think I am right. I am not sure about pink and grey but I can probably ask a local shop.

Well I didn't even start the alarm this weekend. The lowering link arrived and I installed that instead (no wiring involved made it easy on me). I spent the weekend riding and tweaking the suspension - the link lowered it about 1.7 inches. I am very pleased with it, not to mention I am flat footed on the ground now. I will attempt this alarm on the next available weekend. Uncle Sam is calling me to work this one.

Well I got the alarm installed but I could not get the remote start feature to work. I tried hooking it  up but it would not start. I tried holding the clutch in and it still would not start. Any help out there would be appreciated.

I know that some older models had a transponder key.  When you say it does not start, does it turn over but not fire up, or does it not even turn over?   If it turns over but does not fire, try placing the key in the ignition switch.

I had tried it with the key in, on the on position, with clutch pulled in and still no luck. It tries to turn over but it is not starting. Maybe the ignition needs to be grounded before it will work. I am not sure if it has immobilizer it is a 2006 though. Also the remote start won't hurt the ecu does it?

I did look at the manual and it has 2 diagrams. One has immobilizer the other does not. I will trace those wires later and see if there is a immobilizer hooked up. Even if there was one it should have started when I had the key in.

Hello Gents,

I have been searching all over the web for others with these alarms and came across your thread. I bought a SPY 5000m alarm from ebay and recently installed it on my Honda cruiser. Here is where I put all the wires:

red -> battery
black (actually two blacks, both are ground) -> ground
brown -> to relay that switches ignition on
yellows -> to L/R turn signals
blue -> to external relay that bypasses start switch

I didn't hook up the pink & grey wires as they get switched to ground and I don't want to mess with my ECU getting an unexpected ground.

Anyway, everything works: remote ignition, remote start, etc. For 10 minutes! After hitting the start button twice, the +12v is removed from the brown wire, disabling ignition, exactly 10 minutes later. The signal isn't coming from the remote as I took the battery out of it and had the same results.

Anyone else experience this?

Jim

Most remote start units TimeOut after 10 minutes.

So you're saying that the designer's intent is to require the use of the key in addition to the relays? Can't very well drive w/o ignition.

^^^remote starts are not designed to start and then you just drive awayposted_image. you are supposed to use it to start from a distance, like being inside for the purpose of warming or cooling down the vehicle. then when you go outside you place your key in the ignition and turn it on and drive away.

well, since this is for a motorcycle, I believe it's exactly what is intended or at least expected. No worries, though, I'll use my electronics engineering to fix this thing the way I want it to work.

Thanks for the inputs.

If it were me, I would have connected the neutral light as you would connect the brake switch on a vehicle. You know the safety feature so no one can just hop in and drive your car away. When you get that 10 minute TimeOut "Electronically Engineered" out of the equation, I need a new bike. Exactly where do you live?

Just bought one of these myself. Compared notes in this thread with my own, and added the Spy5000m unit to my factory wiring diagram. Haven't installed yet so I'm not sure this is correct, but if someone could take a look at it for me, I'd much appreciate it!

I am not familiar at all with that brand of alarm system.  I have no idea what color wire of the alarm performs what function.  Without this info, it is kind of hard for me to be able to tell you if iti is a correct diagram.

I won't be posting until I get a new bike.....again. Good luck on the install of the alarm. later loose

Hey Guys-

I installed one of those alarms a few weeks ago and I gotta tell you that if you don't ride your bike every day... this alarm will kill your battery every time!!! I have even tried to cut the LED so that it doesn't blink, and it still kills my battery after about three days of not riding it.   But I found that if I ride it daily, this does n ot happen!   So, Be Informed!

Do you have a starter kill relay that may be engaged when the alarm is armed?

___________

No! nothing else is wired that would cause this issue!
It never did this before the Alarm Install and I have been installing alarm systems for years now! Never had this issue!

Does anyone Else's Alarm System Drain The Battery If Not Ridden Daily??? Please Let Me Know... Just Curious.

My battery has been draining as well. Didn't even consider it could be the alarm doing it. I'll unplug it and see if I get any change

I just got this alarm in the mail and the wiring diagram sucks ***.

The way it should be written to compare it to a normal car alarm:

Red = constant +12v

Brown = switched +12v or key on (you must connect this wire since it is needed to prevent the spy 5000m from re-arming, there is no option to disable this via any valet switch like a normal car alarm).

Pink wire and gray wire = outputs ground when bike is armed and someone trys to start bike (aka when armed and brown wire sees +12v). The diagram shows this as some form of starter kill relay but it will blow the fuse to whatever +12v wire you interrupt since when the on board relay activates it takes both wires to ground.

If you want to use the starter kill feature use either the pink or gray wire to switch ground to a relay (i know not the best way, or you could open up the brain and figure out how to remove the ground from that on board relay contact or create a logic circuit).

The rest of the wires are correct in the diagram.

Oh and in case you didn't know the transmitter program button you need to remove the rubber plug to push the real button.

I must say the best part of the alarm may be the very nice box it comes in...hahaha

Thats all I can think off the top of my head thats wrong with the alarm.

If anyone has any questions or if i posted something wrong let me know.

Hi all........

I have the same alarm that I have been trying to get working right... Was about to give up untill I found this site and spend the last few hours reading and looking....

Racingtoys, what you said about the fues blowing is the very thing that has been happening on my bike!!!  Being very new to all this, I'm not sure how you mean by "pink or gray wire to switch ground to a relay".  Does the pink go onto 85 and gray to 86 on the relay?  And the line that they cut into go onto 30 then 87 or 87a?

Still also have to just work out there to drop a relay onto the neutral switch line and then back into the spy box.

Any help would be good thanks.....

Date Posted: October 06, 2009 at 11:33 AM
rc36: connect either the pink or the gray wire (they both do the same thing) to 85 then connect 86 to +12v. (or the other way around since as long as one end of the coil gets + and the other - it don't really matter UNLESS your relay has a diode across the coil, if it has a diode connect it as the diode shows).

I didn't try to use the auto start since there is no built in safety override like cars have (pushing brakes or opening hood) meaning someone could ride away with your bike for the 10min it is running.

Normally using ground to switch a relay on is not recommended since if the wire broke off or the insulation got rubbed off the wire and grounded on the frame it would activate the relay; but thats why this alarm is so cheap compared to the others.

Oh on another note there is kind of a weird way to prevent the alarm from rearming once disarmed (besides turning the engine on)...if you create enough of a vibration (as in enough of a vibration that would normally trip off the shock sensor when armed) anywhere near the brain it will not auto-rearm (unless you push the arm button of course!)...I assume this is the brain thinking that the disarm was intentional.

Thanks for the fast repliy Racingtoys.....

I would like to get the auto start working right as the bike is parked in a locked carpark with a disc lock on so is they can ride away without the front wheel, good luck to them. But as i know if they realy want your car or bike they will take it no matter what alarm system you have on it......

But back the matter at hand, so after i have contected lets say the gray to +12v thought the relay 85/86. What to i do with the line that it said to "cut" into, being the  key to CDI box (BLACK/ White).  And for that matter the other line eg Pink?

Im not sure how the alram can control CDI ignition disable if there is not a closed loop in the "key to CDI" line and the alarm. eg if pink feeds back to +12v and done not use the BL/W line at all in the relay.

And thanks to the heads up about the rubbing off of the wires, I make sure there in a good spot where that cant happen.

Sorry I made things confusing....when the alarm is not armed or the alarm has no power, the pink and gray wire become internally connected by an on board relay, this is fine but when someone trys to start the bike when its armed the on board relay takes the pink and gray wire to ground which is why it blows fuses; this could be a good thing if it blows only when someone trys to steal the bike but if you forget to disarm before starting it will be a bad thing.

The wire they say “cut” is the one you need to connect to the kill relay, one side to 30 and other to 87a. The "other wire" (pink or gray whichever is unused) is not needed for the kill relay but if you want to use remote start you use it as mentioned below.

The remote start part I did play with before but I can't fully remember exactly how it worked since I decided not to do it once I realized there were no safeties, so everything I list below this point you might want to double check with a volt meter (which you should always do regarding anything from the internet).

I think when you remote start, the alarm takes both pink and gray wires to +12v. So if you want to use the remote start take either the gray or pink wire (whichever one you didn’t connect to the starter kill relay), solder a diode to it (solder opposite of the white line on diode) then solder the other end to the wire that would be the same as having the key in the on position with regard to 12v. Make sure you use a diode that can handle the 12v and current demand.

You need the diode since as mentioned in the first paragraph about the fuse blowing…the diode will prevent the fuse blowing condition.

Also you need to check your bike’s wiring diagram to see if there are any anti-theft measures that need to be bypassed, this part is important since some bikes (like my F4i) has a zener diode that needs to be bypassed or it will blow preventing the bike from ever starting by key or remote.

There is another wire I think its called the “start wire” that needs to tap into the start wire after the switch (some people call it “down” from switch).

Once all this is done you should have an alarm that won’t blow fuses, will prevent the engine from being started when armed, and remotely start the bike.

Hope this helps!
