Being a college student, I am on a tight budget. I barter for the motorcycle by working on a farm for 20 hours and tutoring the grandson in math.
I have BS in Mechanical engineering, now going to college for Civil Engineering.
I replace the broken old turn signals, with leds, https://www.d2moto.com/p-6768-universal-motorcycle-amber-led-turn-signals-lights-type-5.aspx, cheaper than the OEMs.
The problem I have is that all four blink at the same time. I have seen on web sites relays for leds. I bought one relay, https://www.bikerhiway.com/index.php?main_page=advanced_search_result&search_in_description=0&zenid=24816420afa0276d9506a744b9e0aeba&keyword=led+relay but it still have the same problem.
Another web site, would sell me relays for $20, telling me that I will need two or four of them
I know this should be simple, such as add a resistor the the circuit, becasue there is no load.
I also want to design, make, and put on the bike led brake lights, and eventually make my own led mirror turn signals.
Has anyone do this before?

I used one ELFR-1 flasher relay on my R1 after I changed all the lights to LED's. It has an OEM plug and is about $20. Do a search on Google for "Custom LED ELFR-1"

the12volt • Support the12volt.comA hijack rather than a reply (sorry!), but yesterday in a local autoshop I saw Projecta resistors used for LED conversions.
Probably 20W resistors (metal cased; probably 8.2 or 10 Ohm).
Package warning that they can reach 170C (340F).
Cost: $27
Package said "one required per (instance or side?)" - hence at least $54 for a LED conversion. (There are 2 resistors independent in each pack so maybe each pack does TWO big bulbs hence 2 packs for 4 bulbs.)
Personally I prefer concealed or black painted original bulbs - cheaper and a bit cooler. Sure - occasional replacement required, but from what I hear, those resistors blow too.
Problem is, some people think they are still saving energy with those resistors.
Much better changing flasher cans etc - but that's no help for lamp check systems.
Haha.... stick with the ELFR-1 :)

the12volt • Support the12volt.comthe way im reading the 1st post is that both left and right blinkers turn on when it should only be turning on the left or the right.. if this is the case it sounds like its wired up wrong. all the relays or resistor packs will do is slow the blinking speed. and i would also recomend custom led.com i have there programable blinker relay unit and love it.
