Hi everybody,

I plan to buy an alarm (Spy 5000m) with remote start function for a Triumph Street Triple R (2010).

Before this, I have done the work "theoretically", meaning that I have drawn the electrical wiring on the Triumph's wiring diagram.

I would really appreciate if you can comment my job (see if I'm right). If all is correct, feel free to help you out with my diagram.

You will see underneath the pictures (Complete wiring diagram (with alarm "installed"), some explanation regarding the diagram and the wiring of the spy alarm

Thanks for your feedback,

Fred

too many cables to look at lol
anyway, I installed the spy 500 on a Yamaha 950 star and it works well.
I am wrapping up the installation as we speak, but wanted to install a way to shut down the remote start in case somebody wants to get n the bike and take off while in remote start running. Still in the drawing board.

The comments that I have to make about the remote start: make sure that all the circuits are energized when in remote starter. when the key is turned, Yamaha completes two circuits and both need to be energized, so check the diagram to your bike.
If you get stuck, let me know.
Btw, you will need at least a 5 pin relay.

Hi Renee,

I used to had a Volusia 800 (aka Boulevard C50 in the US) on which I had mounted a similar alarm with remote start....
Regarding your bike, which year was the bike manufactured; is it a carb or fuel injected bike?

Regards,

Fred

the bike is a 2009, fuel injected.
I am familiar with the C50, but not the volusia, even though I see some of them for sale on craigslist.
Did you install the alarm yet?

Hi,

I plan to install it in August or Septembre.

I noticed you had written on Jelle's topic regarding the delay of the pulse to run the bike.

Quite interresting as I was not sure the alarm made a 2-steps for the remote start.

I also planned to build an electronic circuit to postpone the pulse....simulations on going.

I just installed the alarm and I barely have tested it.
I am going to confirm today about the 2 step remote start and get back to you.

yes, i did conform what I said before.
You hit the remote start button (middle one on the side-the one with the thunder on it) and it sends power to the ignition and acc circuits. Then, WITHIN 3 seconds, you hit the same button again to engage the starter.
The manual for the remote also has it as two steps. So, within the 3 seconds the EFI has definitely enough time to go thru its testing phase.

Hi Renee,

Just on additional question after reading your post again. You told me to add relay (I suppose it's a 12v - 40A). What is the purpose of this relay?

Thks,

Fred

Fred,
I had to use at least two relays so far and I am making a momentary switch for the bike to shut down while in remote start in case someone tries to steal it and this will take at least another 3 relays).

For the first two relays:
one was used to enable the blue wire from the remote to complete the starting circuit and be energized. The blue wire CAN NOT directly be attached to the starter, you will melt the wire. The starter requires lots of current and thus you use a relay to enable the starter's own circuit to operate it. This relay is almost a guaranteed that you will need.

The second relay was used to enable another circuit that needs to be powered during staring, i.e the safety circuit with the neutral switch, clutch switch and kick-stand. The use of this relay depends on your bike. Many people state that the R/S cranks, but the bike never starts. if you get to this points, you most likely have this issue and you will need that extra relay.

Hi Renee,

Just had a look on your other post. I got some idea but this circuit needs to be energized (if I have well understood, you don't want to do it this way) ....

Regarding the extras relays for the remote start, I'am not sure it is necessary in my case because I plan to connect the blue wire on a relay (already present on my bike). This relay is connected to the bike's starter.

For the other one, I'll check when installing the alarm.

Regards,

Fred

I did not add a relay, but so far there is no trouble remote starting. The blue wire is connected to solenoid switch of the starter, so there is no need of relay. solenoid acts as a relay taking high current for the starter. When you press unlock button on the key fob my bike goes off. I am happy about my do it yourself installation. I used xenos which is widely available in India, sad thing is it does not have proximity sensor.
