I'm just wanted to first let you guys/gals know this is a pretty cool site for wiring knowledge.
I'm trying to rewire my HID headlights on my motorcycle. I purchased a BMW K1200rs with aftermarket HID high and low beam headlights. The previous owner wired the low beam to an "autoswitch" which is an accessory relay to run an accessory from an existing turn signal cancel switch by holding the switch for .8 - 1 second. This however requires you to turn on the headlight before riding away. Should you forget to do so - you are riding "invisible" to drivers.
What I would like to do is somehow wire it so that it would come on automatically after the bike is running. Any ideas would be great. If you nee further clarification on what I've got or what I'm trying to do please email my at mattmor-gs@comcast.net

you can take the wire from the turn signal to the auto switch and put it to you ignition switch on position. check the polarity on that turn signal first to make sure it is pos. or neg. if it is neg. than a relay would work either way doing away with that auto switch or using the relay to get a neg. polarity to the auto switch

That will work, BUT the reason its not done that way is because when you hit the starter button the light cuts out. Then it comes back on. I just don't want the light flashing on when I turn the key then shutting off when I press the starter and back on when it done cranking.
I know - you're probably thinking wow this guys nuts. :)

essentially that is an acc. wire, there should be a wire that is still showing 12V while the starter is engaged. that is the wire you want to use for the lights, if that's not available then if you have the room a relay setup can be used to keep the light on during starting
