On my 2001 Cavalier I replaced the factor stereo and lost the door chime and ill turn on the lights from during the day and forget to turn them off, I didn't want to pay $60-100 for the module, plus i already soldered and shrinkwrapped the harness, id have to do all that again plus take the dash all to pieces to install it. I decided to make a chime for the lights myself, My first plan was to use a relay and a chime from Radio Shack, but being a fire alarm technician (until i got laid off on Thursday) I was able to get horn strobe for free that also had a chime mode, it was a little too loud so i had to desolder the speaker from the board and add a 500K VR to it so it would be adjustable. I used a relay powered from the ACC 12V+ so it would activate i ground wire that goes to the chime when the car is off (86 is ACC 12V+, 85 and 87a grounded to car, 30 goes to the chime (-)) and the positive 12V+ from the parking lights goes to the positive of the chime. Anyways here is the finished product...
I took the speaker off and tested it with the 500K VR and got ready to solder it all back together with the volume knob...
Heres my test bench, it was too cold outside...
Thats it, iI could of hooked it into the key in switch too but i was mainly just worried about the lights. My next project is changing my horn out with another "AAOOUGGAA" horn, the last one broke when i forgot about it and hit a deep puddle on the side it was on, I also want to add a strobe to fire off when the alarm goes off, Fire alarm strobes can go super bright.
Just thought I would share that
