2000 to 2005 Impala Radio - FYI

I haven't seen much help on doing the radio so i thought i'd post my notes. There are several screws that are hidden. remove the fuse panels on both sides of the car. there are 2 screws on both sides. there are two maybe three screws visible at the dash above the steering column. Remove the black covers that cover the bottom of the dash above the pedals and the same on the passangers side. they have two clips each. You will see some screws that hold the bottom of the dash.Un screw all these screws. the panel with the trunk pop button has clips that release with a little pull. you will find a couple more screws to the dash behind there. Unscrew those and carefully start pulling the front of the dash to release the retaining clips. once that is done you should have the radio exposed. There are three screws holding it in place. remove those and unplug the radio. You will also want to remove the kick panels and subsequent panels along the drivers side to run the wires from the dash to the trunk. run the wires supplied with the kit up through the kick panel, under the dash and through one of the openings on the side of the radio housing. Use a hanger to pull the wires through the small opening. Follow the instructions on how to install the dash kit and make sure that you find a remote power source for the red wire in the wiring harness. before turning either radio on. the plug with the relay goes in the opening for the new radio and the other in the trunk. i was installing an amp at the same time so i mounted the radio to the amp rack and it looks much better than most of the ones that just mount it to the side of the trunk. the excess wire will tuck under the back seat. Reassemble everything, connect the new radio harness to the one you pulled through the original factory radio opening. connect the wires and you should be good.
