gday, just bought Lowrance fishfinder and it has a simple installation but i'd just like to confirm some things before i go ahead and install it! the fishfinder circuit is red cable from battery to inline fuse to fishfinder and then black cable to negative on battery. I have a 2 prong toggle switch that i want to use. Also the battery is at the back and it is a front steer with already a fuse box and switches (for lights/stereo/uhf) where i will be installing the fishfinder. where is the best place to get the power from (ie just piggybacking off the stereo power?) and then do i connect the the fuse after the switch? and then can i simply earth the black cable to complete the circuit? Thanks for your time !

No need for the toggle switch if you connect the red wire to a power source that goes on and off with the key or an accessory switch mounted to the dash. Yes you should use the fuse holder. Yes ground the black wire to complete the circuit.

I've been doing marine installations for 30+ years. Trailer boats to 100 feet.
You don't want to put the Lowarnce on the key. Depth finders are used for 'metering' fish while the engine is shut down. They don't draw enough to worry about draining the battery prior to restarting. You will learn to power it down like everything else when you leave the boat.
Be sure the back lighting is OFF during engine-off daytime use. The lighting draws more than the unit does. This will greatly reduce the draw.
